Last Wave post

I liked the ending of the book that Mr. Ross has ended Thee Wave. I thought that he would go live and spread The Wave worldwide. I also liked how Mr. Ross explained the the real leader was Hitler. It made sense because The Wave was like the Nazis and they went close to becoming Nazis. There was nothing that I disliked about the book. Most of the novels theme was bystander. Since there was bystanders that caused The Wave to grow bigger and stronger. There was nobody who talked against The Wave or went against it.

What I learned from reading the book is that all the members of The Wave came close to becoming like the Nazis. I didn't think that a group of students could get that strong and powerful. I also learned that anyone could change from being in a group. A project like this is important for teenagers because it helps them think if a project is the same like this one. It helps on grammar and makes a story great when it’s being typed. Thank you contributors for checking our blog and taking your time to read it. This will more likely be our last blog. And again thank you for your time.

Thank you

The book The Wave really kept me entertained and want to keep reading. I was actually sad when the book ended because I wanted to know more about the Wave and what happened after the Wave thing ended. Although the book was slightly slow and didn’t have much action I still had a enjoyable experience. Conformity was the biggest theme in the novel The Wave because all the Wave members conformed to Mr. Ross, when we created the salute and motto everyone said it and followed every rule Mr. Ross told them. If Mr. Ross told them to do a certain action the Wave members would follow it. Silence and Fear also played a big role in the book many of the Wave members did realize what was going on but were afraid if they did not go along with the group they would be rejected so they stayed silent.

I really enjoyed this project. It was very fun to blog and to read a book that I probably wouldn’t have read. I’ve learned that being a bystander is never the option because if we don’t do anything about what is happening we are feeding the fire and are to blame because we did not stop or help the cause. I think this is very important for teenagers to learn because the more older you get the more problems arise and the more fights occur but with this knowledge you know that this is wrong and must be stopped. I really appreciate all that have contributed to the blogging. Thank you everyone for helping and taking your time to teach us a valuable lesson we’ll never forget.

Thankyou - Zaid -

The Wave Finale

I disliked the book The Wave. It did have a good ending with the video of Hitler but besides that it was boring. The book moved very slow and wasn’t fun to read. I think that it does teach a good lesson though. if the book would have had more action and been more entertaining then e think that I would have liked it a lot more. I think that a major theme throughout the entire book was bystander. The wave wouldn't have been started if everyone wasn’t a bystander and conformed to what Mr. Ross wanted. Overall the book taught a good lesson but in an unappealing way.

From The Wave I learned that it is very easy to conform to something. I found it very interesting how easy it was for the kids to join the Wave. I think from blogging I learned how to type better. I also am better with my grammar now after blogging. i think that this is important for kids and teens to be a part of this activity because it shows how you have to stand up for what you believe in. The Wave show us that it was so easy to conform and we have to think for ourselves.

Thank you to all our contributors- Austin

The Wave Has Ended

I really liked this book the ending was my favorite part because it just showed how easy it was to take advantage of a big group of people just like Hitler did. I also think the the Bystanders in the book made it more interesting. The Bystanders played a big part in the book because it is wasn't for them the wave wouldn’t have gone as far as it did.Im suprised that this Wave didn’t spread anymore because i would think that if Mr. Ross wanted to he couldn’t have made it go as long as he wanted. Most people could have stopped it but they just didn’t.

I learned a lot from this project. I learned that when I read the book I can learn a lot more thing then i didn’t know before like the themes and more about the Holocaust. The blogging has helped me learn things i didn’t know before. This project is important for teenagers because it shows how to react and compare things. In the book you had to annotate and find themes and it helps you prepare for high school because you do similar things.

WWII again

“Yes, you all would have made good Nazis. You would have put on the uniforms, turned your heads, and allowed your friends and neighbors to be persecuted and destroyed. You say it could never happen again, but look how close you came. Threatening those who wouldn’t join you. You asked how could German people do nothing as millions of innocent human beings were murdered.” Mr. Ross, The Wave, p. 139

** SPOILER ALERT **

I think Mr. Ross had a good quote because he proved everyone wrong about the Holocaust not happening again but it did happen again. All of the students had uniform and a Wave band on their arms like how the Nazis would have theirs. The students turned their back on other people who were not in the Wave, just like in WWII how German or Nazis turn their heads on the Jewish people. In the story when a Jewish kid was getting beaten up all members of The Wave turn their back away from that person like nothing was happening. The Wave members did almost everything a Nazi would do during WWII. Nobody in the book would fight against the Wave except Laurie. Other than her, no one would talk back or say anything against the Wave because they have fear towards the Wave. It’s just like how the Germans had fear against the Nazis.

This quote reminds me of WWI and WWII. The reason this reminds me of both wars is that when WWI ended most countries thought that another world war would not happen. However, a few years later another one happened. The Nazis would threaten those who would not become members of the Nazi Party or followers of Hitler’s rules. Most Jews were hated on because they would not wear the Star of David even though they were ordered to by Hitler. And those Jews were despised upon by other Jews. During WWII, neighbors would rat on each other for hiding or helping a Jew. This quote also reminds me how some Germans were bystanders and let that happen. I think Germans had fear of Hitler so they decided to talk back to him because anyone who would go against Hitler would be murdered or sent to prison. The part of the quote where they talk about being a good Nazi in the book the students had everything a Nazi would wear and what a Nazi would do. The students who were part of the Wave had the chants like how a Nazi would chant to his leader.

Wave Obsession

“Why not”? Laurie asked. “They’re true. Amy,The Wave has become an obsession with everyone. No one is thinking for themselves anymore.” Laurie, p. 105, The Wave
I think that it was an obsession because everyone thought it was real and they were controlled by Mr. Ross so they were not thinking. Robert was probably the most obsessed because he actually thought he was apart of something and thought it was real. SPOILER ALERT: At the end of the book, Robert found out that it was fake and he was so obsessed that he was crying and so sad that he thought he was a part of something but it was actually fake. Most of The Wave members thought that it was so real that they became obsessed like when some of the members beat up the Jewish kid. Those members were not thinking for themselves so they were being Anti-Semitic. Even David found out The Wave was fake when Laurie told him but on pg. 119 he pushed Laurie down because he was not thinking even though he knew it was fake.
I think this theme is blind obedience because Mr. Ross has made them become obsessed and they can’t think anymore. Just like when this happened in the Stanford Experiment when they used blind obedience to control the prisoners,or even when Hitler made the Jews believe that they were going to a new place and it was going to be fun and cool he made them become obsessed about how good the Holocaust was.(http://www.prisonexp.org/) this is the link that talks about the stanford prison. Many people are like that because when they see a commercial so many times they get obsessed and want to buy that product.Hitler used blind obedience and propaganda to take out Jews. Jews probably wouldn’t do anything because they didn’t know that they were being taken over until later in the Holocaust.

Blindly Following?

“You must always question what you do rather than blindly follow a leader.” Ben Ross, The Wave, p. 140

SPOILER ALERT!

Okay, this quote is after Ben Ross show’s the students the Wave’s real leader, Adolf Hitler. I am glad that Ben didn't go mad with power like I thought. I kind of thought that Ben was telling the truth about how there was a supreme leader of the Wave. I wonder why Ben didn't tell Laurie and David his plan about the Wave rally meeting. What I wonder is did some of the other Wave members think that this was like being a Nazis because it completely resembled it? This was a real event that happened in 1969 not too long after WWII, so I would think that more people in the school, kids and adults would have seen the resemblance. When the quote says, “rather than blindly follow a leader,” that’s exactly what the Wave did the the Nazi kind of didn't. The Wave doesn't really believe in a cause like the Nazis did.

I think that the theme of this quote is blind obedience. The Wave members followed Mr. Ross without really having a cause. The Wave was just obedient to Mr. Ross even though he never told them what the Wave was trying to change or do. I can’t relate this to the Nazis because the Nazis were told what they wanted to do unlike the Wave. I think this quote is about bandwagon and how the Wave didn't question Mr. Ross, they just went along with it. I can relate this to Nazis because they just blindly followed Hitler and didn't think of the consequences. Maybe the Wave members join out of fear and not obedience, like the Nazis. I think that most of the Nazis join out of fear more than obedience, because if you didn't join the Nazi party then you were put in jail or killed. After the person would join then they would be obedient because of fear so I think that the two themes go together. In the Wave I think it went opposite, because it started as obedience then turned to fear when the Wave members started to beat kids up.
